How to prepare for your first technical interview

A short, honest guide for juniors heading into their first coding interview. What to study, what to expect, and how to calm the nerves.

Your first technical interview is nerve-racking. That's normal. The good news is that, for a junior role, nobody expects you to be perfect: they expect clear fundamentals and a real desire to learn.

What to study first

Don't try to memorize everything. Start with what always comes up:

The difference between let, const, and var.
== vs === and type coercion.
What a closure is and what it's for.
How map, filter, and reduce work.

The secret: practice out loud

Most people study by reading. But in the interview you have to talk. Practice explaining each concept as if someone were sitting in front of you. If you can say it in your own words, you truly understood it.

Tip: cover the answer, say it out loud, and only compare afterward.
